Frequently asked questions.

What should I expect during my first appointment?

The first appointment should be fun and enjoyable for your child. It is very important that we give them a chance to get used to the new environment and for them to familiarize with us. Usually, we want to complete a comprehensive exam and cleaning for the little ones along with fluoride treatment and x-rays for older children. If your child becomes scared or upset, we usually will hold off until the next visit, as it is crucial to have them have a happy first visit.

My child is afraid of the dentist. What can I do to prepare them for their appointment?

We make sure to make a friendly and comfortable environment for your kids. To help with distractions, we have a movie screen in each chair with individual headphones, massage-chairs for our treatment rooms, and we also offer “happy air” (Nitrous Oxide). You can encourage your children by making them excited to come as if they are going to their first day of school! Instead of saying things like “It’ll be okay, you won’t get a shot” you can say “I love going to the dentist because they have really fun movies to watch and the doctor makes sure to count all my teeth!” We also give prizes and balloons at the end of the appointment as a reward.

Do you accept my insurance?

We are in-network with many PPO insurance companies, and are willing to work with any new patient who might need dental treatment. Please contact us for more details regarding what insurances we work with and what it would cost.

Can I stay with my child during their visit?

You are always welcome to stay with your child during their appointment. It is helpful if you can encourage your child during their appointment and cheer them on if they are having a difficult time. Sometimes, for younger children, we may ask that you sit with them to help reduce their fear. During treatment, we have a sitting area for parents if you want to accompany them.

What is “Happy Air” / Nitrous Oxide?

Nitrous oxide is a gas that is given through a nose mask for patients who are getting dental treatment. This gas helps to reduce anxiety and help children relax. It has a rapid onset and offset, being a very safe method to help the doctor to efficiently do dental treatment. Nitrous oxide is flushed out after treatment with full oxygen, and the effect immediately wears off — you are legally and safely able to drive (for young adults & adults) afterwards. Children are safely able to perform normal daily activities and attend school on the same day.
